Updated playoff predictions

read_this_book.jpg

Apparently, I know nothing about the American League. Last week I predicted that the Twins and Yankees would advance to the ALCS, and we’ve ended up with the A’s and Tigers instead…so let’s see…I’m going with the A’s in seven. I know the Tigers were the best team in baseball for most of the season, and I know they have all kinds of momentum right now, but I think Moneyball will trump the old-school grit. I really hope so, anyway. I admire people who think outside the box, and A’s GM Billy Beane has done it.

As for the NLCS, I’m going with the Mets in six. The Mets need to win because I need to go to the World Series–and I don’t plan on getting on a plane.

World Series prediction: Mets over A’s in five.

In other news…
I’ve been told that there’s a little blurb about me in the current issue of TIME Magazine for Kids. I haven’t seen it yet. Have you?

Let’s Go Mets

With KC playing so bad are you going to head to there for some snagging next year

Bad team + Small Crowd = Alot of snagging

Go tigers! Have you ever been to Coors field?

That’s awesome about the blurb in Time for kids. It’s funny, because it all started on a fateful day in 4th grade while we read Time for Kids. I noticed this book about catching balls, had my dad pick it up for me, and the rest, as they say, is history. Of course now I’m focused on autographs.

Do u know an exact date for ur Evening News appearance?

Your predictions…. From your mouth (keyboard) to the baseball God’s ears!!! Let’s Go Mets!!

Wow hear about Corey Lidle? He is one of the few Yanks I actually liked.

R.I.P. Corey

rip corey

rip corey.

RIP Cory Lidle

its a tremendous loss for baseball. i must say that origionally i thought it could have been a suicide, but after hearing further details, it was clearly not.

its just one of things where everyone in baseball can come together and mourn the loss of one of its players. it doesnt matter whether your a yankees fan, mets fan, redsox fan, or braves fan, or whoever, we lost a player and thats all that matters. i think that this one is a little more tragic than darryl kile’s passing just by the nature of what happened.

think of this: had the yankees had won the series this would never had happened.

for this all of baseball stops. we mourn, we cry, and at 8:19 tonight we say a prayer for cory and his wife, his 6 year-old son, and the rest of the lidle family. for one minute we stop and remember that cory was part of americas players. at 8:20, we finish our prayers, thoughts, and wipe away that last tear, and we play baseball. does that mean we forget all about the tragic events that occured today at 2:32 NY time? NO. ABSOLUTELY NOT. we play baseball for cory. for cory’s family and friends because thats how cory would have wanted it, and the way cory would have wanted it, is the way we should give it to him, as one last respect to a man, who lived the dream that so few get to live. we do it for him, and in honor of who he was, and why he was here.

god that is horrible for Lidle and his family. Not to mention our yankees.Anyways tonight go mets!

well said joneli. Im a met fan but i feel bad but you are right if they advanced he would still be alive. The reporters will somehow try to blames this on a-rod. Rip corey

LI7039-
That’s a good point about attendance/competition, but I’ve already been to Kauffman Stadium (I was there in 2001), so no, I probably won’t go back any time soon. Right now, I’m more concerned with getting to the ballparks I haven’t been to, and there’s only one to go: the new Busch. I plan to go next year, which is part of the reason why I want the Cardinals to lose to the Mets. If the Cards reach the World Series, it’ll only increase attendance. Good for them. Bad for me.

CHARLIE-

Yup, I went to Coors in 2002. Check it out:

(I was at Kauffman the year before.)

JIMMY-

Thank you soooo much for the link. I hadn’t seen the piece until you led me to it. Totally crazy about Lidle.

CHUCKSTER-

Oh my god, that’s right! I forgot that you first heard about me in TIME for Kids, way back in the day. For those that never saw the first piece, here it is:

SENOR-

Not yet. But don’t worry. As soon as I hear anything, I’ll mention it on my blog.

ALLMARSH!

Good to hear from you! (Pardon my shoddy memory, but is this the first time you’ve left a comment?)

JONELI-

Beautifully said. And terribly sad. Thanks for taking the time to put into words what so many of us are no doubt thinking…

KAYLEE-

The Mets game has been postponed. It’s raining like CRAZY here in New York City. (But the weather was fine at the time of the plane crash…which happened less than two miles from where I live.)

ZNEUFELD-

I wouldn’t be surprised if Yankee fans DO find a way to blame A-Rod for this.

thats terrible about lidle… but zack if mets make it are you for sure going to a game?

zack,
im going tomorrow night. if i cant sneak into the field level (like i did 7/23 vs. houston) i am gonna hang out in the loge and try to get a player to toss one up.

im hopeing that since its a weeknight and is expected to be very very cold, that BP will be a wee bit less crowded, but then again probably not. whatever, i really expected nothing, and coming back with something would be pretty cool.

TRUE PLAYA-
There’s no guarantee. I have no ticket connection, so I’ll probably have to call a ticket broker and pay a LOT of money. Not sure if I really want to do that, but I’ll definitely look into it.

JONELI-

Isn’t the weather supposed to be lousy tomorrow as well? I’m not sure if there will even BE batting practice. But I wish you luck, and I want to hear how it goes.

So, I just want to know…

About how many balls did Lidle throw to you. I know you have at least one?

–Ethan

Hey Z,

Have you heard about Pat Neshek, the Twins reliever who has his own website? Well, there’s discussion on his message boards about your blog.

http://pneshek.proboards39.com/index.cgi?board=general

You may have to sign up, but I thought you’d like to see what they’re saying. I posted something also.

Later man,

Dan in Texas

ETHAN-
He threw me two balls last year.

DAN-

I know about Neshek, and I’ve seen his blog. Haven’t been there in a while, though. I find that most message board discussions about me aren’t very nice. I can only assume that that’s the case with this one, so I’m not in any rush to check it out. If people are being nasty, I hope you (all) are defending me.

:-)

I told the board that you never steal baseballs from kids. I also said your tips helped me collect around 200 balls over the last 4 years.

Oh god, is THAT what people are saying? Too bad they don’t know I’ve started GIVING balls to kids. Oh well. I appreciate your leaving a comment on my behalf, and if anyone else would do the same, that’d be great.

I left a comment 2 saying that you were at Shea one day and you pushed me into a seat trying to snag a ball causing me to sprain my ankle and cut my arm up pretty bad, also that you came up to me after and said HEY WATCH IT KID!

Jks don’t wry didn’t say anything just checked out the site and I have a question about that site. How does Pat Neschek give out the prizes people win on his site through those question contests?

man what has happened To my Shawn Green since he was traded from the Diamondbacks to the mets?He NEVER hit this much with the diamondbacks.
-kaylee

JIMMY-
You scared me for a second there. I don’t know how that prize system works.

KAYLEE-

Gotta love it.

It’s funny my older brother frequents Pat Neschek’s website and he read that today and found the post with me in it and said “Why the **** didn’t you tell me you were on this guy’s blog?”

He’s supposed to get a signed card fron Neschek soon my brother has a ton of signed cards going back from the Early ’90s i mention it because the first signed card he ever got was Ken Caminiti.

I just think that’s funny for some reason.

Neschek seems like a cool guy. I was hoping to get a ball from him when I saw the Twins in Baltimore, but it wasn’t meant to be.

Zach- how much does your book cost and where can I get it?
