Weather (the balls are juiced)
Just my luck. According to AccuWeather.com, it’s going to be sunny in Philadelphia today and on Thursday, and rainy tomorrow when I’m supposed to be there. Twenty-four hours from now, I’ll check the forecast again, and if it hasn’t improved, I won’t go.
What a shame that would be, considering I already spent half an hour making my visual cheat-sheet for the Phillies and Braves–but as much as I want to see some baseball, it’s not worth spending $100 and driving 100 miles in each direction if there won’t be batting practice.
By the way, has anyone else noticed how much the balls are jumping off the bats? Upper deck at RFK? Opposite field at the Metrodome? I know Justin Morneau is the man, but c’mon, when someone hits a line drive the opposite way that measures (according to Hit Tracker) 407 feet, something’s not right. That said, props to A-Rod whose 463-foot bomb at The Stadium was the longest homer of Opening Day. Yankees fans seriously need to stop (embarrassing themselves by) booing him.
Took my nephews to the Twins game yesterday.
Didn’t get our hands on any gamers, of course so can’t say if they’re harder.
One of them did manage to get a BP ball tossed up from the O’s. (Jay Gibbons, I think) That ball, however felt very soft. Official ball, but must have been hit around quite a few times.
1 game, 1 ball.
I’m bored
Zack, last week we talked about buying some of the seats and other items when they tear down Shea. Here’s an article on some of the people that bought things from the old Busch Stadium, including somebody that bought a 21 foot section of the outfield wall! (It doesn’t say how much that went for)

Also, this has got to be the WORST opening day commemorative pitch ever! (Courtesy of the mayor of Cincy)

Hey Zack
There sotring balls at a new temprature this year that could possibly effect the game I highly doubt it though.
But also what are your goals for this year snagging wise?
Good luck with the weather
I completely agree with you about arod. On sunday when I was going to the drays hotel I saw him walking down the street on 61st and park. I think he lives around there. He signed a ball for me and seemed really cool. I thought I remember you saying you got his auto but I dont remember for sure. Take care, zach
where do you get the pics of the not so well known coaches and assistants?
RICHARD-
Interesting (and congrats on the one ball). Let me know if you get a gamer, and we’ll discuss…
CHARLIE-
Sorry.

My whole apartment isn’t even 21 feet long. That’s insane…and that commemorative pitch. My GOD.
TRUE PLAYA-
The weather is still looking crappy, so let’s forget about that and talk about goals. I guess I have three of them:
1) 3,000th ball.
2) At least one ball at the New Busch (which will give at least one ball at every current major league stadium).
3) To get my new business up and running.
ZNEUFELD2-
Cool that A-Rod was so nice. I was lucky enough to get him three times in one day inside Yankee Stadium shortly after his major league debut.
CUBS0110-
Just go to the team’s web site, then click “Roster” and then select “Coaches.” Ta-daaa!
:O gasp!
Thanks :)
I need to make a cubs-reds one for April 15th!
Zack, how much are the loge tickets, like where you usually are?
Hey Zack, if you’re worried about BP being rained out, you should call the Phillies’ BP hotline. It’s really great — it gives you all the info about that night’s game and whether there will be full BP or if it’ll be interupted by some kind of ceremony. You should definitely call before you go or don’t go today. The number is 1-267-570-BATS.
CUBS-
You’re welcome. I hope I will have been to at least one game by the 15th.
JOHN-
You mean those awesome foul ball seats? I think they’re around $36, but they’re basically sold out for the season.
GREG-
Wow. Thanks. How’d you find out about that? Do other teams have BP hotlines?
Zacker:
Just when I thought I’ve seen it all, you post the “Hit Tracker” — WOW!
Where do you find all this cool stuff about the sweet science of baseball?
