A few quick things…

1) Last night, a Minor Leaguer named Mark Holliman pitched a no-hitter, and I wrote the story about it for minorleaguebaseball.com.

real_simple_cover.jpg

2) Two months ago, I contributed a few pearls of snagging wisdom to a magazine called “Real Simple.” The piece finally came out. It IS indeed really simple. You can read it here.

3) I might not be back at Shea Stadium until July 24, due to a combination of three factors: a) my contempt for Shea, b) my busy schedule, c) the Mets having only four home games from June 29 through July 23.

4) I came up with an idea for a t-shirt that unathletic women could wear: “I might throw like a girl, but you throw like Johnny Damon.”

5) I’ll be at Citizens Bank Park with a few friends on June 27, and I might be filmed that day for the Phillies’ cable network. When I emailed the producer last week to ask if the shoot was still on, he wrote, “it should be. i’ll check with you again before then. just need to make sure you are on your ‘a’ game that day!” (Why do people still doubt me? If I can go to a Friday night Subway Series game at Yankee Stadium and miss the first 13 minutes of batting practice and STILL walk away with five balls…)

6) The Frank Thomas Watch is in full effect. He’s three home runs short of 500 for his career, and he’ll be at Yankee Stadium in 24 days.

7) Best MySpace message of the year (which came my way last night): “Hey i dont mean to bother u but ur great..i looked on ur site and in the question and answers…and theres nothing there on how u do it….so how do you get so many baseballs? r u like a ball magnet”

That is all.

Ha. That’s a funny myspace message. I’m suddenly disappointed, the Mr. Mets T-shirt is only for Kids tomorrow. that means no promotion for me. boo hoo.

Hi Zach. I’ve been enjoying your blog. Thanks for sharing your wisdom for all of us who have just longed to go home with just 1 ball after a game!

I grew up in Chicago (go Cubbies!) but moved out to Australia because of work. I can’t wait to go back to the US ballparks to try out your suggestions.

Do you have a Facebook account yet by any chance?

Take care. Just wanted to say “hi” and thanks for all your fun updates.

Haha, the no hitter was by a Cubs prospect!

And speaking of the Cubs (as I always do) I’m going to yet another Cubs-Sox game. This time, however, will be at U.S. Cellular field…

I hope to get my 1st ball outside of Wrigley.. I’ll let you know how I do.

CEETAR-
Instead of getting a t-shirt, you’ll just have to catch a few balls.

EDDIE-

You’re very welcome, and thank YOU. It’s fun for me to share my knowledge and keep the blog going because of enthusiastic and appreciative people like you. I’d go crazy if I had to live in a country without Major League Baseball. Hope you get back here soon and snag your first ball. I don’t have a Facebook account, but I am on MySpace.

CUBS-

You’ve never snagged beyond the friendly confines? Whoa. Good luck. Let me know how it goes.

ok, you may be baseball deprieved, but im not>

June 30: Nationals @ Pirates

July 1 : Nationals @ Pirates

July 2 : Brewers @ Pirates

July 4 : Yankee game????

then i think i have a camp ttip to shea or yankke, but i cant snag when im with camp. its ridiculous. the counselor has to come with you to pee. ive been at Bp all alone bfore, and goin’ with camp ticks me off

I hate Shea stadium…
Between the little kids who think its a good idea to kick me so that they can get in front of me to get a ball and the old ushers who try and kick you out of field level during B.P!? I had so many chances yesterday but every time I turned around there were 50 little girls around me yelling at players to give them balls..

PUCK COLLECTOR-
That’s a great bunch of games, except for the one on July 4, but hopefully Pittsburgh will be so good that it won’t matter.

JOHN-

I’m tellin’ you, weekend games are disasters which are to be avoided at all costs. I’m guessing very few of the 50 had gloves. Maybe we can get a petition going to have Shea torn down a few months early.

The MySpace comment is priceless. Thanks for sharing. I’m on my way to the store right now to pick up a copy of the magazine. It’s not important that I was going away. LOL. I’ll throw it in with all the books I want autographed! I’m starting to wonder if I’m more of a Zack fan than a baseball fan. ;)

How exactly do you pick up aisle seats?

ARRGHHH

Batting practice was rained out…

and apparently, it is more fun to toss a ball to a kid who could care less, than to a kid with a mitt who asked nicely and said please…

Oh well, the Cubs won on a suicide squeeze, so it was still a good day.

Oh, Dis! That’s a great idea for a shirt! That would totally sell!
Oh, and nice article, but I think u said “Cranked a 2-run homer” a bit too much.

Shux.

YAYMINH-

You can either ask for them or just sit in them if they’re empty. (Does that answer your question or is there something else you’re getting at?)

CUBS-

I’m all in favor of kids getting balls, but it does drive me CRAZY when balls are given to kids without gloves.

CHARLIE-

Thanks. I’m actually glad you mentioned that. I noticed the overuse of “cranked” as well. I didn’t write it that way, so the editors must’ve tweaked it at the last second.

you could probably custonize a T-shirt on the web at DYOapparel but I’m not sure it work on a mac.

I can’t believe its been 8 years already since you were on Rosie’s show, incredible how time flies. Great to see the clip again. Thanks!!!

hey zack.

just figured id update on my sunday adventure at shea. the only good part about it was the mets won 10-2. i was like 5th in line with my 2 bros and 2 friends at gate c at 10:15. they didnt open at 10:40 like usual, they opened at 11. and there was no bp, most of the mets players/coaches families were on the field just playing wiffle ball and that kind of stuff. so no bp. at 11:45 all the families left the field, and the players started to throw/stretch in left/right field. security would let nobody on the field level without a ticket. i had a loge ticket. then i tried to go to the loge corner in right field, where most met relievers were throwing. 3 security guards stood in the aisle and told everyone they werent allowed in the corners. so i did the 1st thing that came to my mind. i told him that my main purpose was to take pictures of joe smith, could i please go down for a few minutes and take some photos. he said ok, and i hoped hed forget about me. no such luck, he threatened to kick me and my friend out of the stadium if we didnt move. so 0 balls all day. ugh it was so annoying. i hate shea security, but love the mets.

wow that was long.

BLUGABLUGA-
Stupid Macs. I’m glad I have one except for times like this.

LOVEG30-

Yeah, seriously. (You’re welcome. Thanks for watching.)

GJK2212-

I can’t tell you how angry it makes me to hear stories like that. The way security at Shea treats the fans is OBNOXIOUS. Shea is especially bad on the weekends (and not just because of the lack of batting practice), and that’s why I stopped going. Sorry things went so badly for you.
