Busier than ever

Haven’t been blogging much lately, but I’ve been busier than ever. Last week I answered a bunch of questions (via email) for a feature coming out next month in Diamondbacks Magazine. Now I’m trying to find time to write the foreword to this book in the “Sports by the Numbers” series. It’s due on March 26—the day before I leave for a weekend wedding in Louisiana and THE day I have to move out of my apartment. (Got a bigger/better place 10 blocks north.) I’m also running my weekly writing group, trying to get my Arkanoid machine fixed, feeling guilty about not working on my book proposal, heading out of town this weekend for a reading of one of my dad’s plays, and dealing with yesterday’s death of my girlfriend’s mother. So yeah, busy in every possible way. And there’s more. Stay tuned…

im leaving for spring training on friday morning! yayyyyy!

I’m sorry to hear about your girlfriends mother and will keep her in my prayers.

Hi Zack….

Talk about a full plate. You’re going in multiple directions at once. I’m really sorry about the girlfriend’s mom. How sad. Please pass on my long distance condolences. Sorry about the Heisman thing. Your definition is about right. It’s just something my friends and I say. It basically means getting blown off.

I had another great day at the ballpark. I got FOUR game balls today. First one was a warm up ball tossed up right before the game from Ian Kinsler. It just happened to be a game ball rubbed up with mud. Second was the last out ball of the top of the first thrown by minor league Texas Ranger first baseman number 65. Have to look him up. The ball was hit by Ryan Braun. What a coincidence. Third was a foul ball that riccocheted three times before basically landing in my lap. Hit by a guy named Botts on Texas in the bottom of the second or third inning. The game was on MLB.com so you might see me get the ball if you check out that game in the archive. Last ball of the day was the final out ball of the game thrown up to me from the final pitcher for the Brewers named Mota. I got Tony Gwynn Jr. to sign that ball at the end of the game. He even remembered me from his wedding which was cool!! That’s the only auto I got. I tried to talk to Braun but he’s really popular now so he and Prince Fielder didn’t pay any attention and just kind of ran off. Maybe next time. Also, watch yourself down in Louisiana. Scary state. Hope to see you blog more when you have more time. Oh yeah, saw TC at the game today. He snagged 12 balls from Royals BP today. I love Spring Training.

Take Care…

Leigh

Condolences and pryares for peace to your girlfriend and her family.

Very sorry about your girlfriend’s mom, such sad news. Let her know all the readers of your blog are with her…..Jim

Less than 24 hours before I’m landing in Florida!!!! I cannot wait. I still have to go to school for two blocks (periods) :(. Whatever, I’m getting my Latin name (we just randomly choose a slip of paper and whatever is on there is our name. I will keep everyone updated and post pictures later from my Spring Training trip!

Oh and sorry about the girlfriend’s mother. Tough time I bet. I’m sure you can cheer her up :-).

Hi Zack…

Hope things have calmed down for you a bit. How are you doing? Hang in there partner. Hey, my sister is in NYC for the weekend. If you see her, say hello, ok? Ha ha. I got my first “regular” ball yesterday. Paul McAnulty threw it up to me. That was it for yesterday. Today is my last day in AZ. Seeing the Padres vs Dbacks. Going home tonight. I love the 45 min flight back to SD. Want to go to China with me next weekend for the Padres Vs Dodgers series? Well, once again, hang in there you’ll be back to normal soon enough.

Take care,

Leigh

Thanks from both of us. She really appreciates all the kind words from everyone on here.

LEIGH-

The condolences have been passed along. Thanks. Congrats on the four balls the other day and for the “regular” ball yesterday. Good stuff. No sister-spotting yet, but I’ll keep looking. Talk soon…

FATHER PUCK-

Thanks very much.

I’m jealous of your trip, and everyone else’s on here, but things are just too crazy for me to get away…and yes, I’m doing my best to cheer up the G.F. Thanks, dude.

allriighhttyyy
i’m in florida. very very very hot compared to DC. I’m leaving tomorrow at around 10:30 to catch the Twins @ Pirates at 12:05. This trip is going to be amazing. I will def post pics when i get a chance.

Hi Zack…

Back in San Diego. I’m beat. A long week. Glad to be home. Got two balls on my final day. Scott Hairston threw me a warm up ball and Wil Venable threw me the final out game ball. 6 games, 8 game balls, 2 “regular” balls, 1 cracked bat, and about 40 autos including minor leaguers. Only 1.7 balls per game, but I had a good time. I’m ready for the regular season to start. Talk to you soon.

Leigh

Hey Zack. A couple things:

1. How do you ask for a ball in Korean? (I may need to ask Jae Kuk Ryu for a ball in his native tounge next week.)

2. Countdown: 7 days, 11 hours, 54 minutes and 20 seconds until the gates open at my first Spring Training game

3. Are we gonna have another little friendly competition again this season?

Day one is coming to a close. Very successful first day. I got Joe Mauer’s auto on my Joe Mauer jersey. He is one of the nicest players I have met. I will post pictures of today at the conclusion of my trip. The Twins won 8-4, and they are hitting the best they’ve hit in a looonnggg time. Very hopeful for this year. Tomorrow I’m heading to Lee County (I’m staying here in Lee County) to see the Twins vs. Yankees. We are going to have to scalp for tickets, but it will be fun. Today was freezing for Florida. It was 60 with about a 15 mph windchill. The wind was blowing very very hard. Monday is across Alligator Alley to see the Orioles vs. Blue Jays. Veryyy busy.

Zack, what happened to the article about Bond’s final HR?

I was in Philly to see the Islanders *******(again.) Got puck number 98 and my first NHL hockey stick from an NHL worker after the game.

PUCK COLLECTOR-
It was double pneumonia and related complications. As for the Bonds homer…yes, I had been writing something about that. Good memory. Hopefully, I’ll have an update soon.

DB3PAR-

Buying scalped tickets in Spring Training just sounds wrong. But hey, do what ya gotta do. Congrats on the Mauer auto, and yeah, show us some pics when you get a chance.

LEIGH-

Uh oh, you’re below the “MLS.” Remember that stat from my blog two years ago? Here, let me refresh your memory:

GREG-

1) “Kawng j’say-ow.” Put the emphasis on “kawng” and “say.” (Does that make sense?)

2) Cool.

3) I think so, but do I have to compete with your Spring Training balls?
